Videos::
Motocross University’s entire library of videos is available to all its students. This section will explain what is necessary to view the videos and the correct speed to select for video play.

First let us emphasize our commitment to you as a dedicated motocrosser. Motocross University has created all of its videos specifically for the internet, and in doing this we are able to shoot our videos with all the technical requirements of the internet in mind. By minimizing certain movements and concentrating on lighting angles we can offer a higher quality video than our competitors who can only offer their videos recycled from other mediums. As a Motocross University member you will not have to be subjected to this inferior product.

What Speed to Use
Motocross University has compressed its videos in five speeds: 28k, 56k, 100k, and 300k. The higher the speed, the larger the video and the clearer the picture will appear on your screen. Only broadband internet users have the capability to view the three highest speeds.

Your Connection Speed
The capabilities of the Internet are limited by your connection. The faster your connection (your bandwidth), the more data that can be transmitted. This is particularly relevant in terms of watching videos because the files are quite large. Telephone dial-up through companies such as AOL or MSN are generally 56k. Most connections at work are T3, T1 or DSL (“high-speed” or “broadband”) which are over 100 times faster than regular dial-up access. Watch our videos at work and at home and compare the difference.
Motocross University suggests that all Internet users contact their local telephone or cable company to ascertain whether DSL or Cable connections are available in their area. Eventually all connections will be high-speed, there is no reason to wait any longer. It will change your Internet experience!

Problems::
Videos Don't Play
Videos may not play for several reasons. First, you must down load realPlayer on the home page located under the preview videos if you don’t all ready have realPlayer installed. Then you must always sign in before accessing any videos. Signing in can be done by clicking on ‘Student Entrance’ on the home page. Motocross University’s entire library can be accessed by only enrolled students. Guest Members can access the videos located on our home page.

Choppy Video
If the video you are watching does not play continuously or is choppy then you may have selected “broadband” and are on a dial-up connection or your connection to our server may not be able to handle the bandwidth requirement at that time. Try selecting the “modem” version of the video; the quality of the video will be slightly less but the streaming will likely be better.

Video Compression
Because of the bandwidth issue it is necessary to decrease the size of videos; this is called compression. Compression takes out redundancies in data so that the file size is reduced; however, the more data taken out the lower the quality of the picture. Consequently, the higher your connection speed the less data that need to be removed and the better the picture.

How Videos Work
Motocross University provides all its videos in a streaming format, which means that there is no download or saving necessary.
Once you have clicked on the link to watch a video, the Player will begin to buffer the video for up to fifteen seconds. Buffering provides a cushion so that the video can be viewed without interruption. Once the buffering is complete the video begins playing the buffered portion while the remainder of the data continues streaming behind it. In essence while you are watching the first ten seconds of a video the next ten seconds are being sent to you.

realPlayer*
To view videos on the Internet it is necessary to have a video plug-in. For your convenience Motocross University offers its videos in realPlayer, the world's most popular video player.

Downloading realPlayer
Most new computers already come with the Microsoft Player installed, if your computer does not have the Player you must download it from Microsoft or Real Networks. For older computer operating systems Real Networks older players are available.
Make sure to download the player which corresponds to your browser (Explorer or Navigator) and your operating system (Windows 95, 98, NT, XP or 2000). Make a note of the exact file name and where the Player is saved on your computer. Download may take from one minute up to fifteen minutes depending on your connection speed.

Installing the realPlayer
Once you have downloaded the Player you must install it. Click the Open selection when done downloading or simply search your computer for where the Player file is saved and double click the icon. This will launch the installation procedure; just follow the easy directions on the screen. Installation should take about one minute.

Mac Issues
If you are using a Mac please pay special attention when downloading Real Player. We have found that Motocross University works best on Macs using Real One Player and OSX. Make sure to select the player that works specifically with a Mac and your operating system. You can find this download directly at Real Mac Player or you can get the player from this download link.
