“Inside the Inside Line”
Hey you, wake up….. I said wake up… I guess you need a smack to the head, do it now… smack yourself in the head to knock that thick sculled brain of your’s back into submission. Ok now you can FOCUS , I am not going to pull any punches, just blunt straight forward in your face talk , laying it all on the line. Ready? Here we go Champ.
Have you ever heard this “ Your Not Racing if Your Not Passing”! here it is again “YOUR NOT RACING IF YOUR NOT PASSING”! Do you win all your motos... holeshot and go wire to wire… and lap riders with ease… I DON’T THINK SO! If you want to be a MX SUCCESS and camp out at the top of the podium you must become a guru master of Racing Inside the Inside Line and the Hostile Takeover. THERE IS NO FOLLOW THE LEADER! You must have the mindset of a Ninja Passing Warrior, it’s victory or death!
Ok Champ do I have your attention… I would bet that I do. So how do you become this guru of passing. The winning key is knowing the track like the back of your hand. Walking the track and studying it from every possible angle while looking for all possible racing lines in which to set up a pass. I don’t care if you have ridden the track for years, you can learn more in a few hours walking the course than turning lap after lap for years. Better yet keep a hot lines notebook, and go over it before each moto. Have you ever wondered why forty something John Dowd does so well at Southwick, it’s not because he is so fast, it’s because he is so smart and knows Southwick blindfolded. You must be creative and open minded looking inside and outside of your competitor to overtake the inside line and execute the pass. Late braking is key to overtaking the inside, when your competitor has the door closed on the inside you will need only inches of room to get by running inside the inside line. This Hostile Takeover pass requires precision, confidence, extreme focus and countless hours practicing. Timing is critical, be ready to pounce on any mistake or window of opportunity. Be smart and aggressive don’t just go slamming into riders on the way to the front of the pack, it is a surefire way to end up in a brawl, fine or loading up with a DQ.
Ok Champ, have your lights come on… do you understand the meaning of running inside the inside line? Here it is again “YOUR NOT RACING IF YOUR NOT PASSING”! Learn and know the racetrack blindfolded, be creative, go inside go outside, be smart, be aggressive, don’t follow, inches are all you need, practice with precision and focus on timing and execution. Honing these skills takes discipline and time, motocross is a progressive sport and there are no short cuts. Do this and you will become a Ninja Passing Warrior, on your way to victory at the top of the MX Success podium.
Hope all your motocross dreams come true,
